You’re in the middle of enemy territory, trapped in a helicopter riddled with enemy fire. Your gun’s heavy, rattling with ammunition every time you move. Your ragged breath feels like fire drawn against your face, forming a fog across your goggles, turning the world into smoke and spattered design. The smoke grenade your comrade threw for cover isn’t helping the situation. Your team is all around you, masses hunched over, clasping shooters against chests. They know the chopper windows are just another stairway to hell, and Charlie’s going cherry picking. Maybe he was gonna get lucky & deep-six a grunt—another notch on their belt. Twenty of them training barrels on your position, cover is modest, and you’re down to your last clip.

You were never good at counting the odds, anyway.

You let a ‘nade fly, and another. You hold your breath. You pop out of cover, and you run like hell.

Another day at Skirmish Fields.

This isn’t the paintball you’re used to, where the price they’re asking is bigger than the field you’re playing on. This is the open forest, the urban hellhole, the wet jungle and the dusty hills.
